Sit Down and Just Eat
Even though the Golden Flower is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, it is definitely considered more “high-end". The whole shop is quite spacious and open.
There is no official menu, though you can took a look at the metal board set up just outside. The expected method of ordering is to order according to what vegetables and meats they have in the refrigerator. Or, you can just ask Mr. Yang, the owner what they have. If you simply have no idea what to do, just hand him a 20 and he will arrange everything for you. Warning: often times, this will result in a LOT of good food. I recommend the fried beef.
Mr. Yang has kept shop for more than 25 years, ever since 1985. He said it was harder back then, because nobody was full; there was no food to eat. His purpose in opening a restaurant was to communicate with people and meet new friends. He loves it when people enjoy his meals. In 2000, he began to collect "comment notebooks”. Flipping through the pages, there are wacky drawings, carefully written lines, compliments, short messages, poems, you name it, it is in there. As of now, he has amassed more than 20 of them. So next time you go, be sure to leave a good note or two! When asked what the best food there was, he replied, "肚子饿了,什么都好吃! (When you're hungry, everything tastes good.)"
